Some “internal” pics to make it easy for you to find the things you are looking for. I recommend you to do no mod. In my opinion it is nonsense with an all-mode transceiver. Buy a cheap VHF handheld, modify it and listen what you want... but keep the Ft 817 as it is.

The FT 817 is a real ham radio equipment.!
